Delhi, Jan 18: Election Commission today announced a two rounds polls
schedule for assembly elections for Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland with
election in Tripura scheduled on February 18 and that for Nagaland and
Meghalaya on February 27.
The counting of votes for all the three states would be held
on March 3.Addressing a news conference here, Chief Election Commissioner AK Joti said there will be two rounds of polling in these states. He said polling in Tripura will be held on Feb 18 while in Meghalaya and Nagaland, the polling will be held on Feb 27 adding that EVM and VVPAT will be used in all the three states.
'Counting of votes for all the three States will be on March 3,' Mr Joti said.
Mr Joti said notification for Tripura Assembly polls will be issued on January 24. The last date of filing of nominations will be on January 31, scrutiny of nominations will be on February 1 and last date of withdrawal of candidatures will be on February 3.
He said election in all the three states have to be completed before March 5.
Announcing the poll schedule for Meghalaya and Nagaland, he said notification for polls in the two states will be issued on January 31. The last date of filing of nominations for the two states will be on February 7, scrutiny of nominations will be on February 8 and last date of withdrawal of candidatures will be on February 12.
The Chief Election Commissioner said all critical events will be videographed.
The Chief Election Commissioner said Model code of conduct comes into force with immediate effect in all the three sates and it will be applicable to all the State governments and it will be applicable to the Union Government for policy related issues in these states.
He said final publication of electoral rolls in respect of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland has been done.
Mr Joti said total number of electors as per final rolls for Meghalaya is 18, 30, 104, for Nagaland it is 11, 89, 264 and for Tripura it is 25,69, 216. UNI
