Jammu, Jan 24: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said that as many as 25 civilians were killed and 152 injured in the past two years in cross border firing in different parts of the state.
“In the past two years, 25 people have been killed and 152 got injured due to cross border firing,” Ms Mufti said in a written reply to the questions raised by the members Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, Pradeep Sharma and Yashpal Sharma jointly in the Upper House.
She said that in 2016, two people were killed in Jammu, six in Samba, two in Rajouri and three in Poonch while in 2017, one civilian was killed in Jammu, three in Rajouri, seven in Poonch and one in Baramulla.
Giving details on injured civilians, she replied that in 2016, 40 were injured in Jammu, nine in Samba, fopur in Kathua, six in Rajouri, 20 in Poonch and fpour in Kupwara.
In 2017, she said that 18 got injured in Jammu, 10 in Rajouri, 47 in Poonch and four in Baramulla.
On property damaged during this period due to shelling she said that in Jammu 80 houses were damaged, in Samba 28, Kathua 13, Rajouri 13 and Poonch 31.
However, in Bandipora, 15 houses were damaged, two mosques and a school while in Baramulla and Kupwara, one and 40 houses were damaged due to firing, replied Ms Mufti, who is also in-charge Home.
On policy with the government for rehabilitation of victims and compensation paid to the victims, she said, “as precautionary measures, people residing in the border districts are shifted to safer places temporarily in Government and private accommodations , where they are provided basic amenities like health care, drinking water, power, temporary toilet, sanitation, security.
“Further security has been augmented in border areas in border area and anti-infiltration grid strengthened,” replied the Chief Minister adding that police deployment was increased and adequate security provided in the border villages to ensure protection of property.
“A committee has also been constituted by Government of India to monitor the problems being faced by the people residing near Line of Control,” said Ms Mufti. UNI
