Kangra (Himachal), Nov 3: Former Himachal Chief Minister and BJP leader P
K Dhumal on Friday said the 'dynast' tag is unfortunately put on him and his
son Anurag Thakur and maintained that many a times he is better known as
Anurag's father.
'Instead he used to be called my son, today I am at times known as his father. Anurag did not come to politics because of me,' he told UNI.
Narrating a brief background of circumstances that led to Anurag's baptism into politics...he said 'Anurag was busy with cricket. He had ambitions and also had potential in it. But Virbhadra regime in 2003 and after it dragged Anurag into legal cases with false charges.....That was the beginning,' he said.
'Slowly Anurag became a symbol of fight against Virbhadra Singh and his feudal politics' he said.
Subsequently, Anurag grew close to Arun Jaitley in cricket board, he said.
Mr Dhumal maintained that in 2007 Hamirpur by-election, the then BJP president Rajnath Singh and other leaders decided to field Anurag Thakur for the first time. 'I had no role and as Chief Minister I did not even attend the BJP parliamentary board meeting that cleared Anurag's name.'
Mr Dhumal and his longtime compatriot Shanta Kumar shared dais in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a rally here.
The BJP has made corruption by Congress as chief armament and Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself invoked corruption charges against the incumbent Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. For Mr Modi and the BJP - snatching power in Himachal Pradesh would give credence to the hyped slogan of "Congress Mukt Bharat".
Mr Dhumal also said his confidence has soared many a times after response to Mr Modi's role and now the BJP can achieve a target of 60 plus seats in 68-member assembly.
'There will be double engine growth for the state with Modi regime in Delhi and a BJP regime in Himachal,' he said.
According to much enthusiastic BJP supporters, the campaign, especially after naming Mr Dhumal as CM candidate has gained momentum, and the Chief Minister, who is popular among the people as Raja Saheb, is also feeling the pinch.
'Raja saheb Virbhadra Singh is now getting personal. He says he has no funds to campaign. But there will be no sympathies,' says Gokul Ram, BJP worker.
BJP workers say Mr Modi's campaign has further enhanced party prospects. "The Congress in its manifesto claimed that the party will have zero tolerance to corruption. When the chief minister is out on bail in a case of disproportionate assets while party president and vice-president also being out on bail, it only looks as a laughing club. Can anyone believe claims of the Congress," said Mr Modi in his characteristic and eloquent style.
The Prime Minister is slated to address at least seven more rallies in the hilly state. In contrast, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has not yet addressed a rally in the hilly state after the announcement of the poll dates by the Election Commission.
The Prime Minister also has flayed Congress for Mr Gandhi's meeting with Chinese envoy during the Doklam standoff.
Himachal Pradesh has a strong base of Army regulars and veterans and Mr Gandhi's gestures had not gone down well with these voters. UNI
