Kolkata, Nov 20: Surviving an LBW appeal on 72, captain Virat
Kohli held onto one end like a wall to crack his first ton (104 not out in 119-balls)
at Eden Gardens and 18th in Test as India amassed 352/8 declared
just before tea against Sri Lanka on the final of the 5-day match
here today. India led by 230 runs with Sri Lanka to bat the remaining 32
overs of the day, which may turn dusky by 1615 hours. Virat Kohli, who turned 29 on November 5, scored his first
Test century at Eden Gardens,
considered to be the Mecca of Indian cricket, and his 18th ton in 61 Tests, with a six on long on
from Suranga Lakmal delivery. Kohli, who was
out on duck in the first innings, however, had survived a leg before wicket appeal at 72 when Lakmal's
delivery struck his left pad after
hitting bottom edge. Umpire Joel Wilson raised his hand but Kohli called
for review showing his bat. TV umpire Anil Chaudhary upheld
Kohli's appeal and the captain
went on scoring his unbeaten 104 in 119 balls with 12 boundaries
and two sixes. Earlier openers Shikhar
Dawan (94), Lokesh Rahul (79) set the pace for India batting in the second knock after they were
all out 172 in first innings.
Suranga Lakmal once again took three for 93 runs followed by
Dasun Shanaka 3/76. UNI
