Sep 11: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took serious objection on
the mandatory of the speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mark the
Centenary of RSS ideologue Deendyal Upadhyaya and the 125th anniversary of
Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago address today. Speaking to newsmen here, he said if
the Prime Minister speech pertaining to hindutva ideology, this kind of speech
need not necessarily be watched by the students. It was also noted that
Deendayal Upadhyaya speech may be hindutva ideology only, so it as not
mandatory to watch. He did not have complete information on this programme and
will speak to the University authorities. Educational institutions across India
have been asked by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to make arrangements
for students to watch the live broadcast. Meanwhile Higher Education Minister
Basavaraja Rayaraddi said that the state has instructed Universities and
Colleges to make necessary arrangements as it marks the 125th anniversary of
Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago address, they cannot allow the same platform to be
used as means to propagate hindutva ideology. UNI
