JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 12:
Chairperson, J&K State Social Welfare Board Dr (Prof) Nirmal Gupta today
visited District Jail Amphalla to meet the female inmates and know about their
condition.
Accompanied by Executive Director/Secretary JKSSWB, Shahid Mahmood, Dr
Nirmal interacted with the female inmates and inquired about the treatment
being meted out to them. She also asked them of any special help they require
from J&K State Social Welfare Board in the form of specialized training
particularly in cutting and tailoring, embroidery works etc.
The Chairperson also inspected the workshop of the Jail where inmates
prepare various handicrafts items, furniture etc.
The Chairperson held a detailed discussion with life convict and
under-trials and advised them to keep themselves busy by actively participating
in manufacturing of articles, hand embroidery, crafts etc. “This will
not only keep you busy but also enhance their economic status” Dr Nirmal
told them.
Later, the Chairperson had a brief meeting with Jail authorities and
discussed rehabilitative measures for the inmates and the role of J&K State
Social Welfare Board in this regard.
She informed that soon an NGO, a trainer and a psychologist will be
deputed for imparting training in different skills, yoga and counseling of the
inmates.
Earlier, the chairperson was received by the Senior Superintendent Javid
Fazili.
Senior Superintendent and Principal Jail Institute welcomed the
decisions taken and thanked the Chairperson for her visit to the Jail.
