JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 07- Jammu and
Kashmir Excise Department in collaboration with J&K Wine Traders, Bar Hotel and Restaurants Association organized an awareness programme
about harmful effects of drug abuse and drunk driving, here today.
The programme was held as part of Excise Department’s ongoing mega awareness programme under the aegis of Corporate Social
Responsibility Corpus fund which was launched last year to evolve a public
opinion against drug abuse and drunken driving. The idea of organising such
programmes under social responsibility is brainchild of Finance Minister Dr. Haseeb
Drabu.
The theme of the awareness programme was "Drug Abuse and Drunken
Driving" which witnessed enthusiastic participation of around 200 students
from different schools.
A team of ‘Art of Living’ also imparted life skills and yoga to the participating children.
Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive) Syed Muried Hussain Shah was the chief
guest.
In his address, Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive) exhorted upon the
student community and teaching fraternity to come forward to spread awareness
against the threat of drug abuse, drunken driving and smoking- the burning
problems which have crept into the society. The children participated in the event
enthusiastically.
Dr Abhishek Chouhan was also invited to speak on the occasion. The
Department has so far handed over eight ambulances to the Department of Health
for deployment in accident prone areas and trauma centres situated on highways.
The Excise Department is also running an advertisement campaign on
electronic and print media against the drug abuse. Such advertisements are also
on display in all cinema halls in the state.
Deputy Excise. Commissioner (Accounts), Shagun Sharma and Deputy Excise
Commissioner (Distilleries), Nagendra Singh Jamwal, other
officials of department and teachers were also present on the occasion.
The event
was managed by ETO North, Tinna Mahajan and ETO South Rohit Sharma and their
team.
