Bengaluru, Sep 12: Thousands of activists from various parts of the country took out a protest march here today in protest against the murder of Journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh who was shot dead in front of her house in the city on September 5. The agitators, under the banner of 'Gauri Lankesh Hatye Virodhi Vedike' took out a march from Sangolli Rayana Railway Station (Bengaluru Central Railway Station) to Central College Ground where a public meeting was held. Noted Environmentalist Medha Patkar, Communist party leader Sitaram Yechuri, Veteran Freedom Fighter Doreswamy, writer Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar, severa; students were among the large number of Artists, Journalists, Writers who participated in the protest march. Gauri was shot dead point blank by miscreants while she was entering her house in the night and the incident had attracted widespread criticism including from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders. Following the incident, the Karnataka Government has provided police protection to 18 progressive thinkers, writers and other leading personalities who had threat on their lives according to intelligence reports. Meanwhile, former Deputy Chief Minister and Senior BJP leader R Ashok termed the march as Congress sponsored to mislead the public. UNI
