Agartala, Sep 12: Amid tight security and high tension, council election to 13 colleges of 22 began in Tripura today to elect the student representatives to take part in the college management. Anticipating further trouble following large scale violence in the colleges between CPI(M) student’s wing SFI and BJP student’s wing ABVP in past two weeks across the state that left more than 56 students injured in different colleges. The higher education department officials stated that election was scheduled for 778 seats of 22 colleges while SFI and its tribal partner TSU have won 249 seats and 53 seats won by ABVP of 9 colleges as ABVP could not field any candidate. As a result, election for 476 seats has begun this morning in tight security and counting will be held in the afternoon. A huge contingent of security personnel was deployed in the colleges to avert any further violence during the election. UNI
