SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 11:
Chairperson J&K State Women Commission (JKSWC), Nayeema Ahmad Mahjoor, Monday convened a
meeting to discuss preparations for the ensuing Bharat Yatra, a nationwide
mass awakening campaign, to be conducted by Kailash Satyarthi Children's
Foundation (KSCF) under the leadership of Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash
Satyarthi.
The meeting was informed that the Yatra will pass through and be
undertaken in Srinagar on October 9, 2017. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti will also participate in
the Yatra in Srinagar.
The core objective of the Yatra is to raise mass awareness and action regarding
violence against children, particularly girl children, and child sex abuse and
trafficking of children.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairperson said the
need for the Yatra arose from the growing phenomena of violence against
children in the country. She said crimes cannot only be curtailed by policing
and that there is need for grassroots mass awareness and public mobilization.
Secretary JKSWC, Director Finance Social Welfare Department, Joint
Director Information Kashmir, representatives from Education Department besides
senior officers of JKSWC were present in the meeting.
