Kohima,
Sep 12: At least three jawans of the 15th Assam Rifles were injured in a
bomb explosion when the patrolling party came across an Improvised Explosive
Device (IED) exploded, triggered by suspected NSCN (K) cadres near the
International Trade Centre (ITC) Dan, Pangsha area under Noklak sub-division of
Tuensang district. According to Assam Rifles sources today, the IED went off
when the 15th Assam Rifles jawans were on routine patrol duty yesterday along
the Indo-Myanmar international border. Assam Rifles sources alleged that cadres
of the NSCN (K) had come across from Myanmar and planted the bomb to attack the
security forces. In the explosion, one of the jawans was critically injured
while the other two sustained minor injuries, sources said. As per a local
official source at the border, the armed cadres emerged from the Myanmar side
of the border also fired upon the Assam Rifles jawans and disappeared after
Assam Rifles jawans also retaliated by the exchange of fire. The official said
an Army chopper was activated to conduct sorties after the gunfight, which
lasted nearly half an hour. The injured Assam Rifles trooper was airlifted
while casualty if any on the other side could not be ascertained, the official
added. The Assam Rifles, meanwhile described the incident as a “little exchange
of fire” around the ITC Dan area. The Assam Rifles PRO informed that one
trooper was slightly injured by a ricocheting bullet in the gun fight that
lasted a few minutes. The PRO said the area was cordoned off and a combing
operation was on. UNI
