Srinagar, Sep 7 : One civilian was killed and 13 others were injured in a grenade attack by
militants in this summer capital this evening, official sources said here.
The grenade attack comes on a
day when National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out raids at several
places in Kashmir valley, including Srinagar, at the houses of separatists in
connect with terror funding in the state.
They said militants lobbed a grenade at CRPF vehicle at crowed Jahingir chowk -- the road used by VVIPs, including the Chief Minister and her Cabinet colleagues to reach civil secretariat, the seat of the government in this summer capital -- resulting in injuries to at least 14 persons, including a traffic police personnel.
The injured were immediately taken to SMHS hospital, where one of them, identified as Maqsood Shah, a resident of Budgam, succumbed, they said.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar said that it is being verified that the person who lobbed the grenade was among the injured as reported by eyewitness security force personnel.
Meanwhile, life returned to normal after half an hour of the attack as traffic came to a halt at Jahingir chowk and adjoining areas. UNI
