New Delhi, Aug 5 (UNI) Describing attack on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in Gujarat as 'murderous', the party today demanded that the Centre ensure security to their party leader and accused the BJP government in the state of having full complicity in the assault. The party said the country could not overlook yesterday's incident in which Mr Gandhi's car was stoned with big boulders, which just missed him and injured those sitting on the back seat while he was travelling in flood-hit Dhanera tehsil to meet the affected people. 'The stone that missed Mr Gandhi, who was sitting in the front seat with window glass down, could have been proved fatal. We strongly condemn this incident which was pre-planned by the BJP-RSS to intimidate the Congress in view of the coming elections in Gujarat,' senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mallikarjun Kharge and Anand Sharma said at press conference here. Showing to the media one of the stones that crashed into the car, the party leaders said this was not found locally, and had been brought from outside, and rather than the natural stone it was a weapon of concrete and bricks. 'The BJP is famous for such deeds, and this we have seen from the days of Gandhiji,' Mr Azad said. State elections were coming and Mr Gandhi and other party leaders would go on travelling through Gujarat, and that was the reason that the BJP in desperation had taken to violence to keep them away from reaching out to the people, but the Congress workers will not be deterred, they said. They said what was happening was not good for nation as these forces were taking the country towards fascism, which believes in achieving its ends through violence. UNI
