Srinagar, Aug 3 : Class work remained suspended in majority of the educational institutes in Kashmir valley, including four colleges and two Higher Secondary Schools (HSSs) in this summer capital today, as a precautionary measure. However, all Kashmir University (KU) examinations will be held as per schedule today. Class and other administrative work in lower and other educational institutions resumed today after remaining closed yesterday. As ordered by the District Magistrate (DM) Srinagar class work remained suspended in SP College, Amar Singh College, Gandhi College, Islamia College, SP Higher Secondary School (HSS) and MP HSS today. “The decision to suspended classes in these institutes has been taken to prevent any law and order problem,” officials said. According to the District Magistrate Anantnag, teaching activity remained suspended in all HSSs and Colleges of the district today. Officials said all schools and colleges also remained closed in south Kashmir districts of Shopian and Pulwama. District Magistrate, Kulgam, today ordered closure of all educational institutions following the death of two local Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants in an encounter with security forces early this morning. “Class work also remained suspended in colleges in Ganderbal district, including Kangan, in central Kashmir and Bandipora and Baramulla in north Kashmir,” they added. All schools and colleges were closed yesterday in Kashmir valley, where separatists had called a general strike against the killing of two civilian in security force firing on demonstrators at Pulwama, where two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants, including a wanted commander Abu Dujana were killed in an encounter on August 1. Students clashed with security forces across the valley following alleged thrashing of students, including girls, in Pulwama Degree college. Last year during the summer unrest, educational institutions remained closed for about six months. UNI
