New Delhi, Aug 3 : Darjeeling MP and Union Minister S S Ahluwalia today urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take urgent steps to resolve the ongoing conflict in the hilly region in the state and said the tripartite talks were essential for the same. 'Whatever happening in the Darjeeling hills cannot be resolved by mere administrative pressure or police firing,' Mr Ahluwalia told reporters in the presence of leaders of Gorkha leaders. The solution to the issue was also not possible through agitation and things can be solved only through political dialogue, he said. 'We should create an atmosphere so that a political dialogue can begin,' he said. He said a memorandum will be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 45-day long tension in the hills. The Darjeeling MP said there has been 50 days total bandh in the region. He urged the West Bengal Government to restore the supply of ration to the people in the area. The Minister said there has been human rights violation in the hills where 11 people have been killed. The West Bengal Chief Minister should give directions for the probe in the cases of human rights violation in the hills and there should be action against those who are responsible behind it, he stated. Due to the ongoing tension, the economy and tourism of the hilly region was being hampered, he said and urged the state Government to restore Internet connectivity in the hills. UNI
