Srinagar, Jul 18 :  Light vehicular traffic on the national highway, linking Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, had resumed after remaining suspended since this morning due to landslides triggered by rain. However, only light stranded vehicles, including carrying Amarnath yatris, from both sides have been allowed to move towards their respective destinations, a traffic police official told . He said the traffic on the 300-km-long was suspended this morning due to landslides at Kheri in Udhampur and Pathipangara due to heavy rain. However, he said the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, pressed into service sophisticated machines and men and made the road operational. “It was decided that no fresh vehicle will be allowed from either side of the highway till all stranded vehicles were cleared,” he said. Meanwhile, he said heavy vehicles, which are stranded at various places on the highway, have not been allowed to ply. “We will allow heavy traffic only after getting green signal from the BRO and traffic police officials posted at several places on the highway,” he said.
