The Opposition, including the Congress, today raised an uproar in the Rajya Sabha over threats to Samajwadi Party Member Naresh Agrawal and vandalism of his house following some remarks made by him in the Upper House.


New Delhi, Jul 21: The Opposition, including the Congress, today raised an uproar in the Rajya Sabha over threats to Samajwadi Party Member Naresh Agrawal and vandalism of his house following some remarks made by him in the Upper House. The Opposition uproar led to adjournment of the House till 1200 hrs. As soon as the House met for the day, Mr Agrawal raised the matter of threats to him and the vandalism of his house. He also referred to some TV channels and media publications showing a report on the happenings in the House on July 19 despite a direction from the Chair that media should not report them. Describing it as a matter of privilege, Anand Sharma of the Congress said that as per rule 190 of the procedure of the Rajya Sabha, if at least 25 members raise the matter, a privilege notice can be issued. Deputy Chairman P J Kurien, however, said that the Members should issue a notice in the regard before any action can be taken in the matter. Members of the SP and the Congress entered the Well, shooting slogans against the BJP. Amid the uproar, the Deputy Chairman adjourned the House till 1200 hrs. UNI
