New Delhi, Jul 21 :  Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said government has taken actions against Shell Companies, including those involved in 2G spectrum scam. The Minister's response came in the Lok Sabha during Question Hour when K Ashokkumar of AIADMK wanted to know whether government agencies have initiated actions against any 'director' of such companies - especially for their alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum scandal. Mr Jaitley said actions are taken against a 'director' of such companies only when it is found that there are instances of violation of laws. The question on 2G scam and the government's response assume significance as a family member of a senior Congress leader has been reportedly issued fresh summoning by the CBI for alleged involvement in one of the cases. Replying to supplementary queries, Mr Jaitley, who also holds portfolio of Corporate Affairs, said shell companies are floated often to evade tax. Among others, Kirit Somaiya of BJP wanted to know whether a large number of shell companies are primarily used as conduits for dealing in black money. Mr Jaitley said: "The term Shell Company is not defined under the Companies Act. However, the Registrars of Companies have removed 1,62,618 companies from the register of companies after following due process". He also said the Task Force report on the shell companies have already come and it was being implemented. UNI
